Within just a few years, hydrogen is set to replace fossil fuels in energy-intensive industries. The potential is particularly great in industrial processes that cannot be electrified, or can only be electrified with great difficulty. These include processes in the steel and chemical industries, as well as in the manufacture of glass, paper and building materials. The use of hydrogen requires new and revised technical safety standards and requirements for the construction and operation of gas installations, as well as for the personnel carrying out the work.
Contents of the ‘Industry’ Hydrogen Module
The ‘H2 Industry’ module brings together all H2-ready regulatory frameworks relevant to operators of industrial hydrogen plants or industrial plants powered in part by hydrogen that are connected to the public gas supply (plant networks).
In addition to installation and operational requirements, the ‘Industry’ hydrogen module also sets out requirements for operational staff. Compliance with the technical rules for hydrogen entails adherence to occupational health and safety requirements, such as those set out in the Industrial Safety Regulation.
